As the International Casino Exhibition (ICE) gears up to unveil the Digital and FinTech Transformation Hall in 2027, it has joined forces with SOFTSWISS for the Tech Race Summit. In anticipation of this event, Sergey Kastukevich, the chief technology officer at SOFTSWISS, emphasizes the necessity of creating dedicated spaces for technical discussions within the industry, defining what an engineer-centric conference should entail.

Kastukevich outlines five reasons why these conversations are essential:

1. **iGaming Lacks a Dedicated Space for Technology Discussions**
"As an engineer, I want to take ideas from an event. I want new perspectives, practical lessons, and a better understanding of where technology is heading," he states. Current iGaming events primarily focus on business aspects, which, while important for market growth and commercial relationships, do not serve those developing the technology platforms.

The engineering community within iGaming still lacks venues for collaboration on shared technical challenges. Architects seek discussions on system design, infrastructure teams wish to explore scalability options, and developers want to share insights on issues they’ve encountered. These vital conversations need a specific format. While there are numerous opportunities to discuss industry growth, fewer venues exist to explore the workings of the technology that supports this growth.

The absence of such spaces leads to isolated problem-solving, where knowledge remains confined within individual companies. Consequently, the same mistakes are repeated across the industry.

2. **The Industry Has Outgrown Its Technical Conversations**
"Too often, conferences become marketing exercises, with companies spending significant time promoting their products as if it were a competition to attract clients, disguised as a conference," Kastukevich notes.
Two decades ago, iGaming heavily borrowed from other sectors, but today, it stands as a mature industry. Platforms now handle millions of users, process transactions in milliseconds, and operate under complex regulatory environments akin to those of financial services.

This maturity warrants more sophisticated conversations, providing technical leaders with the opportunity to present genuine case studies and engage in discussions about real-world failures.

3. **The Growing Complexity of Modern Infrastructure**
"When you stay inside your own industry, you tend to see only familiar solutions. When you start talking to people from other sectors, unexpected ideas appear," explains Kastukevich.
Despite its outward simplicity—players betting or launching games—iGaming encompasses a highly intricate technological ecosystem. The platforms are required to support substantial transaction volumes, process payments in real time, manage responsible gambling controls, integrate numerous external services, and navigate varying regulatory frameworks simultaneously.

Aside from the iGaming space, few industries have constructed systems capable of handling simultaneous high-demand events, such as a World Cup kickoff alongside a jackpot trigger without downtime.

Conversely, methodologies employed by tech leaders at AWS, Oracle, and Cloudflare for managing high-load distributed systems, AI infrastructure, and real-time data processing can provide valuable insights for the iGaming community.

4. **Fast-Moving Industries Need Technology That Does Not Break**
"AI is the new high-load, akin to how high-load architecture was the hot topic five years ago. Ignoring AI today would be equally misguided," says Kastukevich.
Technology evolves rapidly, and the iGaming sector is no exception. Engineering decisions that may have seemed cutting-edge just a couple of years ago have quickly become standard practice. High-load architecture, real-time data processing, and AI-driven development have transitioned from experimental concepts to operational necessities more rapidly than many organizations anticipated.

In the competitive iGaming landscape, falling behind can result in immediate financial losses as platforms that cannot accommodate traffic surges risk losing customers in real time. Development teams that lag in adapting to AI-assisted workflows may find themselves outpaced by competitors. Keeping up with the pace of change necessitates more than just passive observation—it requires engaging with peers who are making these pivotal decisions.

5. **Breaking Out of the iGaming Technology Bubble**
"Innovation often happens when different perspectives meet," asserts Kastukevich.
In specialized fields like iGaming, there’s a tendency to focus inward. Engineers often compare their benchmarks against similar platforms, validating their architectural decisions through competitive analysis, which restricts their reference pool.

Innovation thrives on collaboration. Some of the most groundbreaking technological ideas emerge when professionals from different sectors share their experiences and ideas. Strengthening these intercultural dialogues fosters both innovation and the industry's progression.

The Tech Race Summit 2026 is scheduled for September 10 in Warsaw, featuring a lineup of over 30 speakers from major companies such as AWS, Google, Oracle, and Cloudflare.
