The UK Gambling Commission has moved to suspend the operating licenses of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd due to potential shortfalls in their social responsibility measures and anti-money laundering (AML) controls. This suspension is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the Gambling Commission is satisfied that both companies have met all compliance standards.
Under Section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005, both companies must now undergo formal regulatory investigations. As a consequence of the suspension, they are required to adhere to regulatory expectations and keep their customers informed about any matters that could affect them.
Customers will still be able to access their accounts and withdraw funds despite the operational halt. Additionally, BresBet and Bet St George must provide updates and maintain communication through their official websites.
Bet St George, founded in Sheffield in June 2025, launched its gambling site in March 2026. BresBet was established earlier, in March 2021, and has been involved in sponsorships within the horse racing and greyhound racing sectors. It received a license to offer online gambling services in February 2025.
In a statement on X last Friday, BresBet acknowledged the suspension, stating: "BresBet is currently temporarily unavailable following the suspension of its operating licence by the Gambling Commission. We are currently working through the matter and will provide further updates when appropriate."
These suspensions coincide with the UK Gambling Commission's ongoing law enforcement initiatives aimed at operators that fail to comply with regulations regarding money laundering, social responsibility, and other compliance issues. Earlier this month, QuinnBet Limited was fined £609,104, and Holland Park Leisure Limited faced a £150,000 penalty for breaches of self-exclusion rules. In the previous month, Evolution Malta Holding Limited was sanctioned with a £4.75 million fine for unlawfully offering online games to unlicensed operators.
The recent actions taken against BresBet and Bet St George underscore the Commission’s vigilance in ensuring operators meet their responsibilities concerning AML processes and customer protection practices.
