On Monday, the Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) announced significant changes within its board, which included the departure of two long-serving members along with the appointment of two new officers. GREF serves as a collaborative network for national gambling regulators throughout Europe and beyond, aiming to foster dialogue, share information, and promote best practices in regulatory strategies.
Tim Miller, who resigned from the UK Gambling Commission earlier this year, has left his position on the GREF board and stepped down from his role as treasurer. He contributed several years to the forum, becoming a notable UK figure during a transformative period for online gambling regulation and affordability checks. GREF recognized Miller's valuable contributions throughout his tenure.
Joining Miller in departure is Jean-Michel Costes, who has also exited the board after finishing his role with France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). Costes participated in GREF at a critical time when various European regulators, including the ANJ, concentrated their efforts on enhancing advertising regulations and improving player protection measures. GREF extended its gratitude to Costes for his committed service.
Replacing Miller as the new treasurer is Ian Angus, who has served as the director of policy at the UK Gambling Commission since 2020, engaging closely in policy development related to the Gambling Act white paper and financial risk assessments. His appointment reflects the ongoing UK influence within GREF, amid personnel changes at the Gambling Commission, where Ruth Evans has recently taken over as chair, succeeding Charles Counsell after more than a year in that role.
Additionally, Olivia Petit has been appointed as board secretary for GREF. Petit is an associate professor at KEDGE Business School, focusing her research on consumer behavior in digital contexts and emerging technologies.
