The Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) announced a board reshuffle on Monday, marking a significant transition with the exit of two veteran members and the introduction of two new officers. GREF serves as a cooperative platform aimed at uniting national gambling regulators across Europe and beyond, fostering dialogue, sharing information, and promoting best practices in regulatory strategies.
Tim Miller, who stepped down from his position at the UK Gambling Commission earlier this year, has left the GREF board. He also relinquished his role as treasurer. Miller had been a prominent figure in the UK during a pivotal time when the Gambling Commission was implementing extensive reforms regarding online gambling regulations and affordability checks. GREF expressed its appreciation for Miller's significant contributions during his time on the board.
Alongside Miller, Jean-Michel Costes has also departed from the board after concluding his role at France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). Costes actively participated in GREF during a period where various European regulators, including the ANJ, were focused on tightening advertising regulations and enhancing player protection measures. The forum extended its gratitude to Costes for his dedicated service.
In the midst of this change, Ian Angus has been appointed as Miller’s replacement and will take over the role of treasurer. Angus serves as the director of policy at the UK Gambling Commission, where he has been involved in policy development since 2020, focusing on the Gambling Act white paper and its recommendations concerning financial risk assessments. His appointment underscores the UK’s continued influence within GREF, despite recent personnel shifts at the Gambling Commission. Ruth Evans has been appointed as the new chair of the Gambling Commission, succeeding Charles Counsell, who held the position for over a year.
Additionally, Olivia Petit has been appointed as the board secretary of GREF. Petit is an associate professor at KEDGE Business School, specializing in research on consumer behavior in digital environments and emerging technologies.
