Caesars Sportsbook has reached a settlement with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) regarding several violations related to responsible gambling. This settlement, which occurred earlier this month, entails a fine of $251,250 along with the forfeiture of $45,465 in profits. This decision was communicated in a letter sent to Caesars on August 5.
The DGE made it clear that any future infractions, even minor ones, will lead to further consequences for the sportsbook.
The violations outlined in the letter occurred over an undisclosed timeframe and included the following issues:
– Inadequate signage that failed to include the required responsible gambling language consistent with state regulations.
– The failure to deliver the daily self-exclusion list to the DGE.
– Providing a permanent self-exclusion option via its platform.
– Allowing self-excluded individuals to gamble through other platforms.
New Jersey mandates that the signage must prominently display messages such as "Bet With Your Head, Not Over It" or similar phrasing and must also include the national problem gambling helpline number, 1-800-GAMBLER. Furthermore, Caesars' platform allowed users to opt for a lifetime self-exclusion, which contravenes state regulations that require an in-person request for such a ban.
