In Ukraine, the gambling regulator PlayCity has initiated a tender process to develop a software module aimed at preventing military personnel from participating in gambling activities. This action aligns with the government's efforts to limit gambling among troops, driven by concerns that such activities may compromise their readiness and expose them to potential risks like blackmail.
The new system will automatically process players' identification details and cross-check them against the Register of Persons Restrained from Access to Gambling. If an individual is confirmed to be military personnel, their access to any licensed gaming operator or site will be denied.
The Ministry of Defense plans to implement this software as soon as it is completed, with a target service commencement date set for December 24, 2026. This software is expected to complement existing responsible gaming measures aimed at restricting or excluding access to gambling for designated individuals, as outlined in the national register.
However, the government continues to face challenges related to illegal gambling in Ukraine, particularly concerning enforcement actions against offshore and unauthorized operators.
