A legislative proposal in Buenos Aires Province aims to tighten regulations for online gambling platforms by instituting limits on gaming sessions, daily access, and biometric checks. This initiative, led by provincial deputy Mayra Mendoza, is expected to affect all seven operators licensed by the Casino and Lottery Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires (IPLyC). Should it be implemented effectively, the initiative could support the expansion of Argentina’s online gambling sector in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
The proposed bill stipulates that players can engage in gaming sessions for a maximum of sixty minutes. After this period, they will be automatically logged out and required to wait for at least one hour before they can log in again. Additionally, players will be restricted to three logins per day and will receive prompts to encourage responsible gaming habits. If they exceed the daily limit, they will be blocked from accessing their accounts until the next day.
These regulations seek to address issues related to problem gambling and enhance user protection. The bill also includes provisions for revising identity verification methods by incorporating immediate facial recognition technology for players during account logins or money deposits. Other initiatives within the gambling framework will focus on safeguarding minors, overhauling identity verification processes, and overseeing advertising practices.
The bill is set to advance to the appropriate parliamentary committee for further evaluation.
