A new initiative in Buenos Aires Province aims to strengthen regulations on online gambling sites by introducing restrictions on gaming sessions, daily access, and requiring biometric authentication. This proposal is led by provincial deputy Mayra Mendoza and is expected to affect all seven licensed operators under the Casino and Lottery Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires (IPLyC). If successful, the regulation could further develop the country’s online gambling sector, particularly with the World Cup approaching in 2026.
The bill stipulates that players will be limited to sixty minutes of gaming sessions before they are automatically logged out. After this, they must wait at least one hour before logging in again. Additionally, players will be restricted to a maximum of three logins per day and will receive notifications aimed at promoting responsible gambling. Should they exceed the daily login limit, access will be revoked until the next day.
These measures are designed to tackle gambling addiction and to protect users from potential risks associated with online gambling. Furthermore, the bill proposes changes to the identity verification process by introducing instantaneous facial recognition technology for players accessing accounts or making deposits. There are also plans to enhance efforts to protect minors, revise the identity verification procedures, and improve regulations on advertising within the gambling industry.
The proposed bill will advance to the appropriate parliamentary committee for a more detailed examination.
