ANJL Backs New Advertising Regulations for Betting, Calls for Action on Illegal Platforms

On Thursday, the government unveiled new advertising regulations for betting operators that include warnings from the Ministry of Finance about the risks associated with betting. These regulations are pending publication in the Federal Official Gazette.

The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) expressed its support for these new advertising rules, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to the regulations. However, ANJL cautioned that these measures should be complemented by enhanced oversight and a vigorous response to illegal platforms. These unregulated entities operate without authorization from the federal government, evade taxes, and disregard established advertising standards.

The ANJL further criticized these illegal platforms for their failure to implement anti-money laundering practices and their inability to prevent minors from accessing betting websites or to address compulsive gambling issues.

The association underscored the significant risks posed by unauthorized sites, which disregard legal frameworks and player protection mechanisms. Non-compliant advertising campaigns jeopardize the integrity of the sector, necessitating stringent enforcement actions.

According to the ANJL, a sustainable market requires clear regulations encompassing all operational aspects. By backing the government’s new measures, the association views this as a step towards that objective.

In their official statement, the ANJL remarked, “The National Association of Games and Lotteries supports the Ministry of Finance’s new advertising rules and advocates for strict compliance with the regulations without undermining the operations of legally sanctioned companies subject to oversight by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets.”

They added, “However, the association emphasizes that the announced initiatives must be accompanied by strengthened oversight and a crackdown on advertising by illegal platforms—those operating without federal authorization, evading taxes, neglecting advertising rules, and failing to implement measures to prevent money laundering, underage access, and compulsive gambling. The ANJL holds the view that non-compliant advertising campaigns harm the sector’s image and should be met with appropriate actions from the relevant authorities.”
