Brazil's Gaming Revenue Reaches BRL5.89 Billion in H1 2026

The sports betting and online gaming market in Brazil is experiencing significant growth, generating BRL5.89 billion ($1.18 billion) in revenue from January to May 2026. This figure marks an increase of 85.88% compared to the BRL3.169 billion ($634 million) generated during the same period in 2025. The substantial rise in revenue highlights the sector's economic importance and emphasizes the responsibilities that lie with the government, especially as the executive branch has expressed frequent criticisms of betting sites. Policymakers must take this industry seriously to address its impact.

Experts suggest that the government's ability to integrate clandestine websites into the legal framework could potentially double tax revenues. Effectively eliminating illegal operations would likely encourage bettors to utilize licensed platforms instead.

The figures were presented by tax auditors Claudemir Malaquias and Marcelo Gomide, with the attendance of Revenue Secretary Robinson Barreirinhas. In total, Brazil collected BRL9.95 billion ($1.99 billion) from betting throughout 2025. With the data from the first five months of 2026, total revenue has already surpassed the entire annual figure from 2025 by 60%.

Looking ahead, if the current monthly average continues, Brazil’s total betting revenue could exceed BRL14 billion ($2.8 billion) by year-end. These projections are further supported by the heightened engagement surrounding the World Cup. As of June 25, bettors had already transferred nearly BRL510 million ($102 million) to various platforms since the tournament began. This data is provided by Klavi, a data intelligence company.

Klavi reported that during the match against Scotland on June 24, over BRL25 million ($5 million) was wagered, representing a 35% increase from the daily average prior to the World Cup. Additionally, the average transaction value for Brazilian bettors rose from about BRL185 to BRL235 ($37-$47), reflecting a 24% increase. Klavi’s study tracked transactions made by 1.2 million individuals across 187 licensed sites in Brazil.
