Matchbook has finalized its acquisition of Betdaq, a move aimed at enhancing liquidity in the growing peer-to-peer betting market. The announcement, made on Wednesday, merges two of the longest-standing betting exchange operators, with Matchbook emphasizing that this agreement reflects its dedication to the sector.
To ensure a seamless transition, the existing Betdaq platform will remain active until October 21, with users able to withdraw funds until November 4.
By combining both platforms, Matchbook anticipates that customers will enjoy improved advantages such as a wider pool of liquidity, narrower spreads, and larger bets being matched at their preferred prices.
Ronan McDonagh, the CEO of Matchbook, stated that this acquisition strengthens the company's goal of establishing exchange betting as the preferred option for bettors. "Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea – that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin," he remarked.
"A quarter of a century on, that idea is winning: exchanges and prediction markets are bringing peer-to-peer pricing to new audiences around the world, and this acquisition deepens the pool at the heart of everything we build. Our top priority during this transition is the customers of Betdaq: their funds are secure, their choices are clear, and in one unified pool, they should discover better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could provide independently."
The rise in peer-to-peer betting has particularly surged in the United States, where prediction market players like Kalshi and Polymarket have gained significant traction.
Founded in 2004, Matchbook has actively pursued new opportunities in recent years to capitalize on this trend beyond traditional betting. In 2024, it teamed up with EasyGroup, the parent company of EasyJet, to launch the EasyBet betting exchange brand. Additionally, Matchbook has expanded into prediction markets, collaborating with the official predictions partner of the 2026 World Cup, ADI PredictStreet.
