Unions at PMU have approved a restructuring plan that will eliminate 47 jobs within its regional sales operations in France, pending approval from French labor authorities. The overall restructuring will lead to a total of 128 layoffs while simultaneously creating 81 new positions, resulting in a net decrease of 47 staff members.
Among the four unions involved, three have agreed to the collective agreement, while the CFDT union has opposed it, expressing concerns over the plan's dependence on regional teams rather than the headquarters in Paris. This Employment Protection Program was introduced by PMU CEO Cyrille Giraudat as part of a broader initiative to reorganize the company's sales department.
Approximately 350 employees in the regional sales and outreach divisions will be affected by this plan, though to date, no layoffs are planned at the Paris office. PMU is recognized as the largest racing network in Europe, but faces challenges as its customer base ages and previous efforts to attract younger patrons have not met success.
CFDT argues that regional employees are vital to the retail network and crucial in engaging younger audiences with racing.
