French lawmakers have approved amendments to the Professional Sports Bill aimed at strengthening gambling protections for young adults aged 18 to 25. These amendments introduce a mandatory cap on the losses that individuals in this age group can incur while gambling, requiring licensed sportsbooks in France to enforce these limits.
The specific loss limit has yet to be defined and will be established by the government in collaboration with the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). This initiative coincides with Pascal Chèvremont taking office as president of the ANJ, a role that will see him focus on setting these loss limits, regulating advertising, and ensuring consumer protection against gambling-related risks.
Should the bill pass in its final form, it will set a significant precedent in Europe by implementing controls over gambling losses for young adults.
