The Cambodian government has shut down 72 casinos as part of an extensive crackdown on online scams and associated criminal activities. This action is part of a year-long nationwide initiative to combat telecom fraud and internet scams, which has increasingly targeted the licensed casino sector.
From June 2025 to June 2026, the authorities completed raids on 737 suspected cyber fraud locations, conducting inspections at a total of 28,512 sites across the nation. Among the 72 casinos that were closed, 19 had their licenses revoked for suspected involvement in online fraud, 30 had their licenses suspended, and 23 ceased operations after their licenses expired.
Additionally, inspections have taken place at 665 locations suspected of engaging in online fraud, leading to the discovery of 582 active scam sites. Authorities also identified 83 sites believed to be harboring members of organized crime networks, resulting in the closure of 537 of these locations.
As part of this ongoing crackdown, Cambodia has deported 21,102 foreign nationals from 38 different countries by the end of June 2026. The effort has also seen 268 criminal cases brought forward involving 2,773 suspects, highlighting the scale of the government’s campaign against these illicit activities.
