The Cambodian government has shut down 72 casinos as part of an extensive campaign against online scams that has been underway for a year. This crackdown targets not only licensed casinos but also seeks to address issues like telecom fraud, internet scams, and organized criminal activities.
Authorities reported completing raids on 737 suspected cyber fraud locations from June 2025 to June 2026, involving inspections at a total of 28,512 sites across the nation. Among the 72 casinos that were closed, 19 had their licenses revoked for suspected online fraud involvement, while 30 had their licenses suspended, and 23 ceased operations after their licenses expired.
In conjunction with these closures, officials inspected 665 locations believed to be associated with online fraud, identifying 582 active scam sites and 83 spots where criminal networks may be hiding. Consequently, 537 locations have been shut down as part of this initiative.
Since the crackdown began, Cambodia has deported 21,102 foreigners from 38 countries. Additionally, the government has pursued 268 criminal cases, resulting in charges against 2,773 suspects, highlighting the campaign's extensive reach.
