Matchbook has successfully completed its acquisition of rival exchange Betdaq, a move the company believes will enhance its liquidity, especially in the booming sector of peer-to-peer betting.
The acquisition was publicly announced on Wednesday and signifies a merger between two of the oldest operators in the betting exchange market. Matchbook emphasized that this agreement reflects its long-term dedication to the industry.
To ensure a seamless transition for users, Betdaq's existing services will continue to operate until October 21, with player withdrawals permitted until November 4.
By uniting the two platforms, Matchbook anticipates that customers will experience benefits such as improved liquidity, narrower spreads, and the ability to match larger bets at their preferred prices.
Ronan McDonagh, the CEO of Matchbook, stated that this acquisition strengthens the company's goal of positioning exchange betting as the go-to option for bettors. He remarked, “Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea – that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin.”
He added, “A quarter of a century on, that idea is winning: exchanges and prediction markets are bringing peer-to-peer pricing to new audiences around the world, and this acquisition deepens the pool at the heart of everything we build.”
McDonagh reassured Betdaq's customers, emphasizing, “Our first priority through this transition is Betdaq’s customers: their funds are safe, their options are clear, and in one combined pool they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could offer alone.”
The rise of peer-to-peer betting, particularly in the United States, has gained significant visibility with the emergence of prediction market platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket.
Founded in 2004, Matchbook has made strategic moves in recent years to harness this growing trend beyond traditional betting methods. In 2024, Matchbook teamed up with EasyGroup, the parent company of EasyJet, to launch a new betting exchange brand named EasyBet. Additionally, it has broadened its scope into prediction markets, having partnered with ADI PredictStreet, the official predictions partner for the 2026 World Cup.
