Najidi Storm has made history as the lowest-priced loser in British horse racing when it failed to secure victory at Goodwood, with the 10/1 longshot Wreck It Ronnie taking the win. Starting as a 1/33 favorite in the contest, Najidi Storm lost to Wreck It Ronnie, who was guided to victory by jockey Kieren Fox.
This incident surpasses the previous record set in 2023 when Doom was defeated by Karmology at Ripon. Wreck It Ronnie is co-owned by Phil Foden, the English footballer from Manchester City.
Brian O’Keeffe, a representative from BOYLE Sports, remarked, "We’ve witnessed the shortest-priced loser in British racing history, but that doesn’t mean it was a good result for the layers. Najidi Storm might have been an ‘acca’ buster for a number of punters, but when one is put in that short, they’re often keen to look elsewhere. This time, their eye was drawn to the winner, Wreck It Ronnie, who was unfortunately the biggest liability in the race in our book."
Similarly, Paddy Power experienced a tough outcome after the race. Spokesman Paul Binfield noted, "Racing history has been made in today’s opener on the South Downs, but winner Wreck It Ronnie was a loser in the book with punters taking a chance against the very short-priced favourite."
