The challenge for casino operators seeking to attract younger players is significant. Today's potential customers have been raised in a digital landscape that values simplicity, speed, and instant satisfaction, yet the current betting and gaming landscape often seems outdated. Entering the world of sports betting can be daunting for newcomers, laden with complex odds, unfamiliar terminology, and events that may take considerable time to yield results. Traditional casino games might feel far removed from the quick and engaging short-form content omnipresent on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
This disconnect struck entrepreneur George Yashin during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, prompting him to found Swipe Games. With a diverse background spanning fashion technology, retail hardware, sneaker care, and early-stage tech investments, Yashin found himself overwhelmed when trying to place a football bet online, ultimately visiting a betting shop for assistance. Upon exploring casino games, he noted that they felt unchanged from the slot machines he recalled from years past.
Yashin reflected on the potential to merge the enticing randomness of casino games with the captivating engagement seen on social media. "What if you could bet on the outcome of a short video or a TikTok?" he pondered, sparking the creation of Swipe Games, a company based in Cyprus aiming to innovate the casino gaming category.
Now in its early commercial phase, Swipe Games has quickly gained traction since launching sales late last year. Unlike traditional game selection, Swipe Games mimics the continuous scrolling of a social media feed. Players are presented with brief videos and have just three to five seconds to predict one of three outcomes, such as a goal, a miss, or a save in a simulated penalty shoot-out.
When a player wants a new challenge, they can swipe up to discover another video. "We are as quick as crash games, but the pattern and the feel are more like betting," Yashin explains. Currently, the company offers 10 games with themes including football and cars, which align with popular trends on social media.
Yashin emphasizes that Swipe Games doesn't require users to learn a new set of rules; instead, they can apply their existing social media habits—watching, deciding, and swiping—to the gaming experience itself. "The video itself is the game," he elaborates. With outcomes resolved in mere seconds, Swipe Games aims to create an accessible gambling experience.
The gaming community's response has been promising. Since starting sales, Swipe Games has signed around 30 to 40 contracts with partners such as BGaming, SoftSwiss, 1xBet, 01.tech, and Broadway. Yashin recounts being surprised at the enthusiasm from industry veterans, with one business development manager noting it was the easiest product he had ever pitched. Among potential clients, of approximately 50 leads, only one turned down a partnership, indicating strong interest in Swipe Games.
Early player engagement data boosts confidence that Swipe Games provides more than just appealing visuals. Compared with crash games—another short-interval format—Swipe Games rounds last about eight to ten seconds. However, the betting patterns observed resemble those of sports betting, with one market reporting average bets 20 times higher than those seen in crash games. Additionally, player retention metrics show promising results, indicating that users are returning and engaging with Swipe Games more than traditional crash gaming.
An essential part of maintaining user interest lies in content variety, which presents a challenge in a casino environment. If all videos are pre-recorded, predictability creeps in. To combat this, Swipe Games employs generative AI to create dynamic, fresh video content, boasting over 20,000 clips in its library, essential for keeping the gaming experience engaging. With plans to roll out new content every two weeks, this AI-driven approach allows the platform to respond swiftly to ever-changing social trends.
Supporting its tech team of seven, AI agents work behind the scenes to streamline various tasks, making the operation feel significantly larger. Yashin reveals that partner integrations can sometimes be completed in as little as 24 hours, while even their reverse integrations rarely exceed three weeks, ensuring rapid deployment.
Yashin's ambition is extensive. Among their immediate goals, the company seeks to achieve a monthly betting volume of €600 million. However, his broader aspiration is to transform Swipe Games into a platform feature, allowing players to access an endless, personalized feed with each swipe. This would herald a new format in casino entertainment—a simple swipe potentially leading to new gaming moments.
Yashin believes the emergence of generative AI will redefine many aspects of iGaming. In an industry constantly craving innovation, he anticipates rapid adoption of these technologies, extending even to live casino formats, where AI could facilitate virtual presenters.
While Yashin acknowledges that Swipe Games may attract imitators if it gains traction, he is confident that few competitors can replicate the speed of innovation and creative insight that drives his company. "You can copy the mechanic, the name, and the theme, but the creativity behind it is unique to us," he asserts.
As the gaming industry evolves, each era has been marked by groundbreaking innovations, from slots to live casino experiences. Yashin perceives that the forthcoming wave will not simply introduce another game but revolutionize the way players interact with casino gaming, focusing on deeper content integration.
"People always need something new," Yashin concludes. "We see swipe games as potentially being the next wave in the iGaming sector."
