Swipe Games: Casino's New Frontier for the TikTok Generation

Casino operators aiming to attract the next generation of players face a unique challenge. Today’s prospective customers are accustomed to a digital environment characterized by simplicity, speed, and instant gratification, which starkly contrasts with traditional betting and gaming experiences that often seem outdated.

Newcomers to sports betting can easily be overwhelmed by complex odds, wide-ranging markets, and unfamiliar terminology, especially when the result of their wager might take considerable time to reveal. Traditional casino games, in particular, can feel far removed from the dynamic and rapidly evolving short-form content that is prevalent on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

George Yashin, the founder of Swipe Games, experienced this disconnect firsthand during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With a background that spans 15 years in various sectors, including fashion technology and retail hardware, Yashin attempted to place a football bet but found the interface so confusing that he ended up asking for assistance at a betting shop. Upon exploring casino games, he noted that they felt strikingly similar to the slot machines he had encountered years ago.

"I started thinking about how to combine the really great monetisation of randomness in casino games with the attention loop of social media platforms," Yashin explained. "The idea was: what if you could bet on the result of a short video or a short TikTok?" This thought eventually led to the creation of Swipe Games, a business based in Cyprus that aims to establish swipe games as a distinct category within the casino landscape. Since launching sales late last year, the company has rapidly gained traction.

Instead of presenting players with a traditional game lobby, Swipe Games mimics the design of social media feeds. Participants navigate through an endless stream of short videos and have three to five seconds to decide among three possible outcomes. For instance, in a football penalty shoot-out game, the options could be a goal, a miss, or a save.

The conclusion of each video reveals the outcome. If players lose interest in a particular clip, they simply swipe up for another.

"We are as quick as crash games, but the pattern and the feel are more like betting," Yashin stated. The company currently offers ten games, focusing on themes such as football and cars, deliberately based on popular subjects seen on social media.

This familiarity is crucial; Swipe Games aims to ensure that social media users do not have to internalise an entirely new digital language when they engage in casino activities. By converting the instinctive behavioral pattern—watching, deciding, swiping, and repeating—into the gaming experience itself, Swipe Games allows players to interact naturally with the platform.

The concept of prediction markets resonates with the trend of simplicity and intuitive engagement, as consumers increasingly seek a straightforward way to make predictions about future events. Swipe Games harnesses this behavior in a casino format, instantly transforming short-form content into an engaging experience with results revealed in seconds.

Despite the innovative nature of Swipe Games, Yashin notes that the industry's response indicates immediate understanding. Since commencing sales in late 2022, the company has signed approximately 30 to 40 contracts with partners including BGaming, SoftSwiss, 1xBet, 01.tech, and Broadway.

Surprisingly, even with his extensive entrepreneurial experience, Yashin has found the industry's enthusiastic feedback quite remarkable. One business development manager mentioned he had never encountered a new product easier to pitch. This positive reaction extends to potential clients; from about 50 leads generated through events, only one company opted not to integrate with Swipe Games, leaving a steady line of interested partners.

"We have a term within our team called ‘hot pie,’" Yashin said. "It signifies a product that is very appealing and easy to sell. It's something fresh for the market, and the market is ready for it."

Initial player data further backs up Swipe Games’ belief that it offers more than just a visually compelling interface. Yashin highlighted comparisons with crash games, which share similar short rounds. A round in Swipe Games typically lasts around eight to ten seconds, but player engagement appears markedly different.

Across multiple markets in Latin America, Europe, and Asia, Yashin indicated that average bets on swipe games resemble the figures seen in sports betting rather than crash games. In one market, the average bet on Swipe Games was 20 times higher than that of the operator's crash games. Retention metrics have also been promising, with day-one, day-seven, and day-30 retention rates ranging from the crash-game benchmark to five to ten times higher in some markets.

Yashin attributes the difference in player behavior to the motivations that inspired Swipe Games from the outset. While crash game players might encounter varied outcomes, the visuals can become repetitive. Social media has trained users to expect new content with each swipe, creating a unique engagement pattern with Swipe Games.

He explained, "People are not playing it just as a quick crash game. They play it more like they are betting. It is a different pattern."

Generating that level of variety poses challenges. Casino games require random results, yet relying solely on a library of pre-recorded videos can lead to predictability. To address this, Swipe Games utilizes generative AI to create video content, combining existing technology with the efforts of their own creators. Their library now exceeds 20,000 videos, providing the necessary content engine to keep the feed fresh and responsive to evolving trends. Swipe Games aims to add new games or content every two weeks.

"People always need something new," Yashin remarked. "I think the next wave is games with more content inside."

AI's influence extends even further, supporting developers with various tasks and expediting operator integrations. "With a direct integration, we have examples of partners integrating us within 24 hours," Yashin stated. "Reverse integration is typically difficult for everyone, but in our case, we can complete it within a maximum of three weeks, including testing and going live."

Swipe Games has ambitious goals, with Yashin citing a "North Star" of reaching €600 million in monthly betting volume. However, he envisions a future where Swipe becomes more than just another category in the casino lobby. Instead, he imagines a platform-level feature where players encounter a dedicated Swipe button, leading to a personalized, continuous feed that aligns with their tastes.

At that point, it would transcend being merely a collection of games, evolving into a new format for enjoying casino entertainment, where each swipe offers fresh content and a unique gaming experience. Within iGaming, Yashin anticipates that the implications of generative and real-time AI could eventually affect areas like live casino, potentially even introducing AI-generated characters in place of human presenters. He believes that the industry will swiftly adopt these technologies, likely quicker than some might expect.

Should swipe gaming prove successful, Yashin anticipates competitors will arise. He welcomes this possibility but believes rivals may struggle to replicate the speed, creativity, and trend awareness that underpins Swipe Games. "It would be beneficial for us to have strong competitors," he said. "Although they could mimic the mechanics and themes, they cannot duplicate the creativity itself."

This era of iGaming has seen transformative formats take hold, from slots as the industry's bedrock to live casinos enhancing realism and crash games redefining instant-play entertainment. Swipe Games is positioning itself as the next major category, offering not just another game, but a novel way to play. "I believe the next wave will be games packed with more content, and swipe games have the potential to lead that shift," Yashin concluded.
