Matchbook has successfully acquired Betdaq, a move that it claims will enhance its liquidity in the growing sector of peer-to-peer betting. The announcement was made on Wednesday, marking the union of two well-established betting exchange operators. Matchbook emphasized that this acquisition highlights its long-term commitment to the betting exchange market.
To facilitate a smooth transition, the current Betdaq service will continue operating until October 21, with players having the opportunity to process withdrawals until November 4.
By consolidating the two platforms, Matchbook anticipates that customers will enjoy access to a more comprehensive pool of liquidity, narrower spreads, and the ability to place larger bets at their preferred prices.
Ronan McDonagh, the CEO of Matchbook, stated that this acquisition will bolster the company’s goal of positioning exchange betting as the preferred option for gamblers. "Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea – that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin," he remarked.
He added, "A quarter of a century on, that idea is winning: exchanges and prediction markets are bringing peer-to-peer pricing to new audiences around the world, and this acquisition deepens the pool at the heart of everything we build. Our first priority through this transition is Betdaq’s customers: their funds are safe, their options are clear, and in one combined pool, they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could offer alone."
Matchbook highlighted a renewed momentum in peer-to-peer betting, especially noticeable in the US, where prediction market firms like Kalshi and Polymarket have gained traction. Established in 2004, Matchbook has made several strategic moves recently to harness this momentum more broadly than traditional betting.
In 2024, Matchbook formed a partnership with EasyGroup, the company behind EasyJet, to launch the betting exchange brand EasyBet. Additionally, the company has delved into prediction markets, announcing a collaboration with ADI PredictStreet, the official predictions partner for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
