Brazil's Blask Index experienced a significant decline of 78.2% during the week spanning from September 28 to October 4, marking its second successive drop following President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's signing of Medida Provisória 1.394 on September 25. The previous week had already seen a decrease of 20.1% in the index.
As the index fell, offshore brands increasingly captured a larger portion of the market. Their share of the Blask Index rose from 3.7% during the week of September 14–20 to 5.9% the following week, and reached 18.1% by September 28. On October 4, this surged to 23.4%. The daily index showed a stark contrast; on October 4, it was approximately 10% of its average for the week of September 14–20.
The key points of the ban outlined in MP 1.394 include prohibiting the exploitation, offering, intermediation, and advertising of fixed-odds betting on sports and online games across both physical and online channels, affecting foreign operators selling to Brazilian customers as well. However, other types of legal lottery remain unaffected. Since the decree’s publication, new deposits have been halted, while voluntary withdrawal options will be available until 23:59 on October 5. Websites and applications will cease operations on October 6. Remaining balances must be filed by CPF with banks on October 7–8, with funds expected to be returned between October 9 and 14.
To interpret the data:
– The Blask Index is a real-time indicator of market demand for iGaming brands in Brazil, derived from normalized search data.
– The weekly change compares September 28 to October 4 against the previous week of September 21–27.
– The terms onshore and offshore refer to a brand's licensing status within Brazil and do not imply legality.
– The offshore share represents the contribution of offshore brands to the overall Blask Index.
In Finland, the Blask Index saw a rise of 18.7% during the same week, climbing from 806,100 to 956,700. This uptick aligned with the Eurojackpot jackpot nearing its €120 million cap, announced by Veikkaus on October 2 after no top-prize winners emerged from the previous draw. Veikkaus reported a notable increase in its own index, which surged 33.7% from 330,200 to 441,700, constituting 46% of Finland's overall index.
The highest daily values were achieved on October 2, hitting 183,500, with subsequent numbers of 176,700 on October 3—marking the largest figures since September 19 when the index hit 194,200.
The next Eurojackpot draw is scheduled for October 6. Should there be no winners, the jackpot will remain at €120 million, which would surpass Finland's record prize of €91.9 million won in Siilinjärvi in 2019.
The Blask Index typically peaks on Fridays and Saturdays. Previous occurrences of the jackpot reaching €120 million in May did not yield a significant increase in Finland’s index for the corresponding Tuesday. While this week's gains align with the jackpot increased expectation, the data does not definitively indicate a direct correlation. Further analysis of the index will follow Tuesday’s draw.
In South Africa, SportyBet's demand share has surged to 1.3%, an increase that has propelled it nine positions up the rankings. Between September 2025 and August 2026, the share rose from 0.4% to 1.3%, elevating its rank from 15th to sixth, while the Blask Index quadrupled.
In Kenya, the Blask Index for SportyBet climbed 65% during the same period, adjusting its share from 1.6% to 2.8%, maintaining its eighth position, the same rank it held at the year's inception.
The trajectories of the two markets diverged initially. SportyBet resumed in Kenya in August 2025 following a dispute over taxes and licensing, while it continued operations in South Africa. An increase in South African shares followed the endorsement of brand ambassadors Cheslin Kolbe and Benni McCarthy on November 27. This rise was recorded as the brand maintained a hold during a time of already elevated demand, peaking in December before a slight dip in July, with August concluding just below the previous June high.
In Kenya, following a peak of 4% in April, the brand fell back in later months, paralleling a decline in overall search interest, which was approximately 8% lower in August compared to September. This indicates that additional shares were acquired within a softer market.
Projected revenue (CEB) in Kenya rose from $0.62 million to $1.6 million, while in South Africa, it increased from $1.1 million to $4.9 million. Ranking improved in South Africa, where the brand has not exited the market, while Kenya’s rankings held steady despite being below April’s peak.
In the US, Novig's Blask Index for prediction-market demand surged from 1% to 6.1% within a month, moving it up to third place. This gain coincided with reports of a $2 billion valuation for the company.
Novig rose from fifth to third among US prediction-market brands in September 2026, with its brand awareness percentage (BAP) climbing significantly. The increase stemmed mainly from a decline in Kalshi's BAP, which dropped from 35.8% to 30.8%, while Polymarket retained the top position with 58.6%.
The reported valuation jump represents quadrupling since earlier in the year from a $500 million mark. Novig has not yet substantiated the figure or confirmed the round's conclusion.
In June, Novig's regulatory standing shifted as the CFTC designated Ludlow Exchange, its exchange entity, as a designated contract market on June 16, 2026. Cofounder Jacob Fortinsky expressed optimism about the company's future role in the prediction market sphere. In September, Novig ranked third among US prediction-market brands, reflecting strong growth.
