Andria Vidler has resigned from her position as CEO of Allwyn UK, with seasoned industry professional Phil Walker stepping in as interim CEO. This change was made public on Wednesday, with Vidler’s departure set for September 7. Since taking over as UK CEO in October 2023, Vidler has played a crucial role in Allwyn’s transition as the operator of the UK National Lottery. Both she and Allwyn UK Chair Justin King have mutually agreed that this is the appropriate time for her to leave.
Vidler will remain as an advisor to Allwyn UK until the end of October to facilitate a smooth transition. King expressed gratitude for Vidler’s leadership, particularly in completing the “much-needed and long-overdue transformation” of the National Lottery. He stated, “With the major transition milestones delivered, now is the right time to look to the future and build on the solid foundations that have been laid to create a strong platform for future growth.”
Vidler remarked, “Transforming the National Lottery is a marathon, not a sprint, and, with the major transition now complete and the National Lottery in a stronger position to keep delivering for the nation, this feels like the right moment for me to pass on the baton.”
According to sources familiar with the company, Allwyn’s UK priorities will not change. The focus remains on modernizing the National Lottery, enhancing player safety, and supporting various good causes.
Phil Walker, who will be taking over as interim CEO, has a rich background in the industry. He spent six years at William Hill, holding various senior positions, including online managing director and CCO. Prior to this appointment, Walker served as a non-executive director at City Gaming Limited. Sources suggest his extensive experience will be beneficial while Allwyn UK searches for a permanent successor for Vidler.
Walker expressed enthusiasm about his new role, saying he looks forward to building on the achievements of his predecessor. “I am excited and proud to be taking up the baton from Andria and joining such a vital national institution at this important stage of its growth journey,” he stated. He also reflected on being a long-time National Lottery player, acknowledging its positive impact on communities across the UK, which greatly influenced his decision to take on this position. "It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made."
