Andria Vidler has officially stepped down as CEO of Allwyn UK, following an announcement made on Wednesday. Her departure will become effective on September 7, marking the end of her tenure since she took over the role in October 2023.
During her time, Vidler played a crucial role in Allwyn's transformation into the operator of the UK National Lottery. She and Allwyn UK Chair Justin King mutually agreed that it was an appropriate time for her to leave.
To facilitate a smooth transition, Vidler will remain with Allwyn UK in an advisory capacity until the end of October. King expressed gratitude to Vidler for her efforts in driving the “much-needed and long-overdue transformation” of the National Lottery.
"With the major transition milestones delivered, now is the right time to look to the future and build on the solid foundations that have been laid to create a strong platform for future growth," King remarked.
Vidler reflected on the process, stating, "Transforming the National Lottery is a marathon, not a sprint. With the major transition now complete and the National Lottery in a stronger position to keep delivering for the nation, this feels like the right moment for me to pass on the baton."
According to an insider connected to Allwyn, the firm’s priorities remain unchanged, focusing on modernizing the National Lottery, enhancing player safety, and supporting charitable causes.
Phil Walker, who has extensive industry experience, will step in as interim CEO. Walker previously held various senior positions at William Hill over six years, including online managing director and CCO. His most recent role was as a non-executive director at City Gaming Limited.
Sources close to Allwyn indicated that Walker’s background positions him well to manage the company while it searches for a permanent successor to Vidler. Walker expressed his anticipation for the role, eager to build on the achievements of his predecessor and to continue the National Lottery’s community contributions.
"I am excited and proud to be taking up the baton from Andria and joining such a vital national institution at this important stage of its growth journey," Walker stated. "As a long-standing National Lottery player, I know first-hand the difference it makes to communities across the UK, and this is a huge part of what attracted me to the role. It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made."
