Veikkaus has announced that its information systems remain secure, with no irregularities detected in any accounts despite a security breach that may have impacted around 800 customer accounts. This breach is attributed to a software attacker who successfully logged into Veikkaus services by guessing user credentials using a software tool. Although many accounts were accessed, Veikkaus indicated that no unusual gaming activities have been observed on these accounts. Local authorities are currently investigating the situation, and customers potentially affected have been notified and urged to update their passwords. Importantly, the hacker was unable to transfer any funds from the accounts, thanks to existing authentication measures. Hannah Kyrki, director of legal and corporate responsibility at Veikkaus, stated, "Due to the nature of the attack, we believe that the risk of misuse of the gaming accounts in question and personal data is low." She further noted that there have been no detected unusual events in the compromised accounts, and the company will maintain close monitoring of the situation. In a related development, Veikkaus is preparing for potential layoffs, initiating discussions with 830 employees about up to 200 redundancies.
