Parx Casino Operator Receives Casino License in Pennsylvania

Parx Casino Shippensburg, covering 73,000 square feet, will feature 500 slot machines, electronic table games, and a dining and sports bar facility. Plans allow for the potential addition of sports wagering in the future, with a targeted opening in late 2022. During its construction phase, Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment anticipates creating 175 jobs, with 125 permanent positions post-completion. Greenwood originally submitted its application in 2018, having bid $8.1 million for the right to establish a casino in Pennsylvania, eventually choosing Shippensburg Township in Cumberland County as its site. The casino operates under a Category 4 license, which allows between 300 and 750 slot machines. The license holder may also have the option to manage up to 30 table games for an additional fee of $2.5 million, with the possibility of introducing up to 10 more table games after the first operational year. In November 2021, Pennsylvania reported record gaming revenues of $432.5 million, alongside significant growth in sports betting revenue. The existing Parx Casino location reported slot revenue of $31.6 million, reflecting a 14.7% increase from 2020.
