The Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) announced on Monday a significant change in its board composition, with the departure of two longstanding members and the introduction of two new ones.
GREF is a collaborative network that connects national gambling regulators across Europe and beyond, aimed at fostering dialogue, sharing information, and developing best practices regarding regulatory strategies.
Tim Miller has stepped down from the GREF board after resigning from his position at the UK Gambling Commission earlier this year, where he also held the role of treasurer. Miller’s involvement in GREF spanned several years during which he played a pivotal role as the UK pushed for reforms in online gambling regulation and affordability checks. The forum expressed its appreciation for Miller’s contributions throughout his tenure.
Another board member, Jean-Michel Costes, has left following his conclusion of duties at France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). Costes participated in the GREF during a time when many European regulators, including the ANJ, worked to strengthen advertising regulations and enhance player protection measures. GREF thanked Costes for his dedicated service.
The board now welcomes Ian Angus as the new treasurer. Angus, who serves as the director of policy at the UK Gambling Commission, has been involved in policy development since 2020, notably with the Gambling Act white paper and its recommendations on evaluating financial risks associated with gambling.
His appointment reflects the ongoing influence of the UK within GREF, despite recent personnel changes at the Gambling Commission. Ruth Evans will be stepping in as the new chair of the Gambling Commission, succeeding Charles Counsell after more than a year in that role.
Additionally, Olivia Petit has been appointed as the board secretary of GREF. Petit, an associate professor at KEDGE Business School, focuses on researching consumer behavior in digital contexts and emerging technologies.
