The Netherlands Gaming Authority (KSA) has slapped Casino Zoetermeer with a fine after two individuals, both registered in the self-exclusion program Cruks, accessed and gambled at the venue. Initially, the KSA set the penalty at €25,000 when the investigation commenced in 2022, but local courts later adjusted this to €21,500 due to delays in the enforcement process.
Casino Zoetermeer attempted to block the publication of the KSA's decision, seeking an injunction, but the court dismissed the operator's request. The investigation began after questions arose regarding the casino's identity verification protocols. The KSA confirmed that both gamblers were indeed listed in the Cruks system when they were admitted to the casino.
This incident adds to a growing list of Cruks-related enforcement actions. In December 2022, Unibet faced a hefty fine of €400,000 for similar infractions, while Betnation was issued a warning for failing to conduct required client check-ups in June 2022. The KSA has also intensified its scrutiny across various compliance areas, imposing fines of €886,000 on 711, €500,000 on LeoVegas, and a significant €3 million penalty against Chestoption for providing unlicensed gambling services.
