Google to Enforce Stricter Gambling Advertising Rules from September 2026

Beginning September 14, 2026, Google will enforce new policies governing gambling advertisements, which will include stricter licensing requirements in Google Ads. Advertisers will now need not only the relevant gambling licenses but also what Google refers to as "good policy health." Those with a history of repeated violations may find it difficult to obtain certification or risk losing their existing approvals.

These new regulations will apply across the gambling industry, impacting online casinos, sportsbooks, poker platforms, lotteries, bingo entities, and specialized gambling marketing firms. Google's updated approach shifts from a lengthy certification process to a system centered on continuous compliance monitoring. Furthermore, the company has tightened its domain ownership policies, enforcing that advertisers must operate only on websites for which they are entirely accountable.

Agencies that show persistent compliance violations in their clients’ accounts could also lose access to gambling advertising certifications. Google has clearly stated that repeated breaches of its policies might lead to the revocation of gambling advertising certification, effectively blocking operators from using Google Ads for their promotions.

In addition, the scrutiny on prediction markets is intensifying. Starting August 1, 2026, browser extensions that promote or facilitate real-money prediction markets will be banned from the Chrome Web Store. Non-monetary simulation products may still be allowed as long as they explicitly communicate that no real money is involved.
