The Cambodian government has recently shut down 72 casinos as part of an ongoing crackdown on scams and criminal enterprises throughout the country. This action is a key component of a year-long initiative aimed at combating online fraud and related crimes.
Between June 2025 and June 2026, officials conducted extensive raids on 737 locations believed to be involved in cyber fraud, inspecting a total of 28,512 sites nationwide. Of the casinos shut down, 19 had their licenses revoked for suspected online fraud activities, while 30 others were temporarily suspended. Additionally, 23 casinos ceased operations after their licenses expired.
The government’s inspections also uncovered 665 locations tied to online fraud, leading to the identification of 582 active scam sites and 83 places suspected of harboring criminal network members, culminating in the closure of 537 such locations. As of June 2026, Cambodia has deported 21,102 individuals from 38 countries as part of this crackdown, and there have been 268 criminal cases prosecuted involving a total of 2,773 suspects, highlighting the extensive nature of the government’s efforts against organized crime.
