Spotlight Sports Group has made its inaugural venture into the games sector through a partnership with Engage Games, as announced on Thursday. This collaboration allows Spotlight’s global sportsbook operators to access a range of custom games developed in conjunction with its partners.
This move signals Spotlight’s first foray into the gaming arena, effectively merging its worldwide product and content distribution capabilities with Engage Games’ expertise in both free-to-play and pay-to-play formats. The initiative comes at a time when operators are increasingly adopting free-to-play games as tools for engagement, retention, reactivation, and acquisition.
The games offered will incorporate mechanics such as fantasy, predictor, survivor, and bet builder, while racing titles will utilize Spotlight’s Smart View Engine. Rob Brown, Spotlight’s B2B Growth Director, commented on the partnership, noting that it enhances the company’s offerings by integrating Engage Games’ gaming engine with Spotlight’s extensive data and distribution network. He stated, "This partnership marks a significant step for SSG as we extend our product capability into the games space. In Engage Games, we have found a partner with a proven ability to deliver games that produce real commercial outcomes for partners."
Ryan Lawrence, the founder of Engage Games, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Spotlight Sports Group. He said, "Partnering with SSG – one of the most trusted names in global racing and sports betting – reflects the reputation and results we’ve built, and it’s the natural next step in our mission to get better game experiences into the hands of as many players as possible. Through SSG’s network, we can now put proven, performance-driven capabilities in front of operators and rights holders worldwide."
Spotlight is positioning itself for further growth. The media company behind Racing Post appointed Adam Gill as its new Chief Technology Officer in June, amidst ongoing efforts to broaden its product range. Gill, who transitioned from Savanta, is tasked with enhancing technology and engineering operations across the group, with an emphasis on attracting new audiences. He remarked, "As Racing Post enters its 40th year, there is a real opportunity to use technology to engage new audiences, deepen the value we deliver to operators, and make AI a practical capability across the business."
In January, Spotlight revealed its 2026 Racing Innovation strategy, which includes two anticipated product launches. The company rolled out its Smart View Tipping Feed and Racing Bet Builder, both aimed at delivering modern, algorithm-driven tools designed to elevate customer interactions while simplifying the betting process.
