Mozzartbet Group, a Serbian-focused iGaming operator, announced plans to cease operations under its Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) license effective October 1, 2026. This move will involve retiring the Mozzart.com brand along with its affiliate program, as the company reallocates its resources toward markets where it holds local licenses.
The withdrawal means that one of the leading brands in the Balkans will no longer operate as part of the MGA's licensed operators in the region. This shift aligns with a trend observed over the past two years among various companies in grey markets. Traditionally, a Maltese license has allowed access to markets viewed with some tolerance, while obtaining a domestic license is increasingly important as regulations tighten and local welcome becomes more lucrative.
Mozzartbet has held its MGA license since 2019, and its decision marks the second instance this month of a company opting to discontinue its operations under this particular license due to its diminishing relevance.
The company's primary focus has shifted to domestic markets. Established in 2001 in Belgrade, Mozzartbet continues its licensed operations in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, North Macedonia, as well as Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria.
Mozzart operates in regions characterized by rapid regulatory changes. Countries such as Serbia, Croatia, and Romania have issued domestic licenses to operators and enforce taxation laws accordingly. After two decades of developing its brand and retail chain, Mozzart competes with locally licensed brands in these markets, where the regulatory risks are considerably higher for brands operating under Maltese licenses.
Just last week, the MGA released its latest list of 11 URLs of websites lacking valid licenses, clarifying that these do not pertain to the 11 sites identified in August 2026.
