Hippos ATG Obtains Second Operator License in Finland

Hippos ATG has officially secured a license under Finland's new Gambling Act, allowing it to operate within the country. This makes it the second operator to receive such a license, following Wildz, which launched on July 1, 2027.

The ownership of the company is shared equally between the Swedish AB Trav och Galoppi (ATG) and the Finnish Hippos Association. With this new license, Hippos ATG will be able to offer a variety of games to the Finnish market, including horse racing and sports betting products.

Mikael Bäcke, CEO of Hippos ATG, expressed confidence in their ability to meet the licensing requirements, stating, "A positive decision is the most important prerequisite for entering the market, so this is a significant moment for us. We have worked hard to build a completely new company in Finland and its operating models from the ground up to comply with the requirements of the new Finnish legislation. After this excellent news, we can focus even more strongly on the products themselves and on finalizing the operational entity."

The new licensing framework aims to enhance the regulation and oversight of gambling in Finland. ATG is keen to play a part in this critical transition, striving to emerge as a trustworthy and reliable player in the Finnish market. The company intends to establish a sustainable gambling operation by leveraging ATG's experience from Sweden and Denmark, alongside the expertise of the Finnish Horse Owners Association in trotting and horse racing.

Bäcke further noted, "With the license, ATG is the largest gambling operator in the Nordic countries and the market leader in horse racing betting in Sweden and Denmark. We want to be involved in developing the gaming industry and thereby also support the conditions for Finnish sports and horse racing."
