Altenar Files Complaints Against Sportradar Over Data Access Issues

Altenar has filed formal complaints with both the European Union and UK competition regulators, claiming that Sportradar is abusing its market dominance by blocking access to vital live sports data and betting odds. The company alleges that Sportradar restricts Altenar's access to data covered by exclusive agreements with organizations such as the NBA, MLB, ATP, and NHL, while it continues to provide this information to other betting platforms, including ORAKO and NSoft.

According to Altenar, these actions have undermined its competitive ability. Additionally, Altenar's complaint states that Sportradar has conditioned access to crucial data and betting odds on the purchase of its Managed Trading Services (MTS). Despite Altenar's insistence that it does not require MTS, the company ultimately decided to procure the service.

Altenar has called for action from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition and the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) regarding Sportradar's alleged practices. An Altenar spokesperson commented, "We believe Sportradar is using its control of essential sports data to shut out businesses with a competing offer. This is bigger than Altenar: bookmakers across the EU and UK need a choice of suppliers and a market that supports competition and innovation. We are asking the European Commission and the CMA to intervene and ensure that independent providers can compete on fair terms."

In response, Sportradar has denied Altenar’s claims. A representative from Sportradar indicated that they were not aware of any recent complaints from Altenar, although they noted that Altenar had previously threatened to approach various competition authorities in February. Sportradar characterized Altenar's latest action as an unnecessary move intended to apply pressure amid ongoing commercial disputes. The company reiterated its commitment to compliance with antitrust and other legal regulations.

Altenar's complaints come on the heels of four lawsuits it filed against Sportradar earlier this April in the United States.
