Blask Insights: Major Shifts in Global iGaming Demand

Recent insights from Blask highlight notable shifts in player behavior within the iGaming sector, particularly marked by a significant drop in offshore betting interest in Turkey and a rise in search demand from the Philippines, which has now overtaken Brazil. The ongoing report highlights unprecedented growth across the African markets, the implications of Alberta’s recent market launch, and the strong presence of Pragmatic Play in the casino segment.

On October 13, Turkey’s Blask Index experienced a dramatic 68% decline, plunging from 1.50 million to 483,000, coinciding with reports from the Interior Ministry announcing the arrest of 102 individuals in connection with an illegal betting operation. Following this raid, demand for brands in Blask’s Offshore category decreased by approximately two-thirds over the next six days, contrasting with a rise in demand for brands under the Mixed group, which includes sports betting platforms like Nesine and Iddaa.

The Interior Ministry detailed that the gendarmerie, alongside the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) and the Batman public prosecutor’s office, conducted the raid across 13 provinces, uncovering ₺8.5 billion (about $171.5 million) in financial transactions associated with the illegal bets.

Blask’s data indicates that the drop in demand was evident from the announcement date, with the Offshore group’s daily average falling from roughly 963,000 before the raid to 322,000 in the following days. Meanwhile, the Mixed group enjoyed a rise from 155,000 to 200,000 per day, increasing its share of the overall index from between 10% to 16% prior to the raid to between 35% to 47% after it.

In context, the week leading up to the announcement was notably busy, with average daily searches well above normal levels. Compared to a pre-announcement average of 729,000, the post-announcement average of 522,000 is about 28% lower. Initial figures from October 19 suggest that demand in the Offshore group is beginning to recover, but the future trajectory remains uncertain. Additionally, ongoing football activities such as the Süper Lig’s eighth round may also influence the market changes observed during this period.

Moving to the rankings within the Blask Index, the Philippines surpassed Brazil in September 2026 as the country with the highest iGaming search demand, with a significant annual growth of 87%. However, Brazil still led in projected revenue, indicating a disparity between search volume and actual financial success. The licensed operators in Brazil represent 97% of the revenue market, compared to 62% in the Philippines.

This recent surge in interest for the Philippines appears to contrast sharply with Brazil’s decline during the same period, as new restrictions began shaping Brazil's licensed betting landscape. A measure taken on September 28 halted new deposits on licensed platforms, leading to decreased search interest before the eventual takedown of authorized sites, which began October 6.

In Africa, Blask recorded a historic increase in iGaming search demand, with a 19% rise in September 2026 compared to the previous month. This uptick marked a new high, surpassing the previous peak set in December 2025. Countries like Tanzania, Nigeria, and Mozambique were significant contributors to this growth, while only Mali and Libya reported declines.

The present demand surge has helped push the projected revenue benchmark to an impressive $765.6 million, a notable increase from May’s figure. Blask's Index continues to point to a strong recovery as it builds on previous monthly gains noted in August.

In Alberta, the entry of licensed brands has reshaped the landscape, with these brands now holding 64% of the search demand yet only 36% of revenue. PlayAlberta maintained its strong position in search interest, but the overall demand for licensed operators dipped, contrasting with a steeper decline among unlicensed entities.

In terms of casino game visibility, Pragmatic Play stood out by placing six games among the top ten in Q3 2026, led by various titles from the Gates of Olympus series, which collectively showed strong performance in multiple markets.

This landscape of shifting demands and regulations might set the stage for further changes as operators adapt to fluctuating player interests and regulatory measures across different regions.
