Scandinavian & Nordic Gaming Show 2026 Approaches: Insights from Industry Leaders

In just three weeks, the 8th annual Scandinavian & Nordic Gaming Show (SNGS) 2026 will commence on 22 – 23 October at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark. The event promises a significant examination of the Nordic markets as Finland embarks on a new licensing framework, Sweden adopts a stringent regulatory stance, and Norway escalates enforcement measures.

Participants at SNGS 2026, including regulators, operators, technology providers, and investors, will engage in critical discussions about these market dynamics.

With SNGS 2026 approaching, prominent operators from the region have voiced their insights on the shifting landscape shaped by regulation, competition, and technology.

**Antti Koivula**, Chief Compliance Officer at Hippos ATG, shared his thoughts on Finland's impending regulated market:

"The key priority is to move from reading the rules to operationalizing them early across product, marketing, payments, technology, and customer operations. Operators must also maintain flexibility as parts of the regulatory framework are yet to be finalized. It is vital to comprehend the nuances of the Finnish regime compared to familiar markets."

On balancing compliance with customer experience, he stated, "Strong compliance and a competitive player experience are not opposites. Good compliance integrates into the customer journey rather than being an afterthought."

Looking ahead to SNGS 2026, Antti expressed his anticipation: "I can’t wait to discuss and analyze the latest developments in Finland’s gambling reform alongside industry experts. The opening of the licensed market is on the horizon, presenting numerous important topics to explore."

**Bo Flindt Jørgensen**, CEO of Landbrugslotteriet, offered insights on the Danish market:

"In a mature market like Denmark, brand differentiation will be crucial. There is currently a lack of innovation in gaming operators’ strategies, which presents opportunities for improvement. Regulators must strike a balance between legislation that restricts operators and allows for product and service evolution in response to changing consumer behavior. A tailored regulatory approach is essential for sustainability in the lottery and gaming sector."

He further commented on the significance of events like SNGS, stating, "SNGS offers fresh insights and knowledge vital for staying competitive and responsibly developing our markets. Sharing ideas and implementing them into new legislation is crucial for our industry success."

**Tero Holopainen**, Head of Product for Casino & Games at Coolbet, emphasized the need for clarity in Finland's upcoming market shift:

"Predictability and clarity are paramount in any regulated market. These factors are essential for operators to make informed investments, alongside rigorous action against the grey market. Licensed operators can capitalize on local offerings and payments, which enhances their competitive edge over grey market entities."

Tero also looked forward to the networking opportunities at SNGS 2026: "I'm eager to connect with industry professionals and learn about the latest updates and innovations within the Nordic markets."

The SNGS Eventus Awards 2026 will also take place on the evening of 22 October 2026, recognizing outstanding contributions within the Nordic gaming sector. Nominations remain open until 9 October 2026, with a shortlist set to be unveiled on 14 October 2026.
