Andria Vidler has announced her departure as CEO of Allwyn UK, with industry veteran Phil Walker stepping in as the interim leader. The transition will take effect on September 7, 2023.
Vidler, who has held the position since October 2023, played a pivotal role in Allwyn’s transformation into the operator of the UK National Lottery. Both she and Allwyn UK Chair Justin King decided that now is the appropriate time for her to step down.
To facilitate a seamless handover, Vidler will continue to assist Allwyn UK in an advisory capacity until the end of October. In a statement, King expressed gratitude for Vidler’s contributions, particularly her efforts in achieving the much-needed transformation of the National Lottery.
“With the major transition milestones delivered, now is the right time to look to the future and build on the solid foundations that have been laid to create a strong platform for future growth,” he stated.
Vidler remarked, “Transforming the National Lottery is a marathon, not a sprint, and, with the major transition now complete and the National Lottery in a stronger position to keep delivering for the nation, this feels like the right moment for me to pass on the baton.”
A source close to Allwyn indicated that the company’s priorities will remain intact, focusing on modernizing the National Lottery, enhancing player safety, and supporting charitable causes.
Phil Walker, who is taking over the interim CEO role, has an extensive background in the industry. He spent six years in senior positions at William Hill, including roles as online managing director and chief commercial officer. His most recent position was as a non-executive director at City Gaming Limited.
Sources within Allwyn believe Walker’s experience positions him well to manage the company as it searches for a permanent successor to Vidler.
Expressing enthusiasm for his new role, Walker stated, “I am excited and proud to be taking up the baton from Andria and joining such a vital national institution at this important stage of its growth journey.” He emphasized his personal connection to the National Lottery, highlighting its significant positive impact on communities across the UK. “It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made.”
