On Monday, the Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) announced a restructuring of its board, which included the departure of two long-serving members and the appointment of two new officers.
GREF serves as a collaborative platform for national gambling regulators across Europe and beyond, aiming to foster dialogue, share information, and promote best practices in regulatory policies.
Tim Miller, who stepped down from the UK Gambling Commission earlier this year, has also resigned from the GREF board and relinquished his position as treasurer. Miller played a significant role on the forum during his tenure, steering the UK’s approach amid reforms to online gambling regulations and affordability assessments. GREF expressed its appreciation for his contributions.
Jean-Michel Costes has also exited the board following his departure from France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). His involvement with GREF coincided with initiatives from various European regulators, including the ANJ, aimed at strengthening advertising standards and enhancing player protection measures. The forum thanked Costes for his commitment and service.
Ian Angus, the current director of policy at the UK Gambling Commission, will take over as treasurer. Since 2020, Angus has been actively involved in policy formation, including the Gambling Act white paper, which addresses financial risk evaluations concerning gambling.
His appointment reflects the ongoing influence of the UK within GREF, despite changes at the Gambling Commission, where Ruth Evans has been appointed as the new chair, succeeding Charles Counsell after more than a year in that role.
Additionally, Olivia Petit has been appointed as the board secretary of GREF. Petit, an associate professor at KEDGE Business School, focuses her research on consumer behavior in digital contexts and the implications of emerging technologies.
