The Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) confirmed a significant reshuffle of its board on Monday, prompted by the resignation of two veteran members along with the introduction of two new officials.
GREF serves as a collaborative network for national gambling regulators in Europe and beyond, fostering dialogue, sharing information, and promoting best practices in regulatory strategies.
Tim Miller, who stepped down earlier this year from his position at the UK Gambling Commission, has also left the GREF board, where he held the role of treasurer. Having served on the forum for several years, Miller played a crucial role during a transformative period for the Gambling Commission, which saw the implementation of major reforms regarding online gambling and affordability checks. GREF acknowledged Miller’s significant contributions throughout his tenure.
Joining him in departure is Jean-Michel Costes, who concluded his tenure at France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) and exited the board. Costes was part of the forum during a phase when many European regulators, including the ANJ, concentrated on enhancing advertising regulations and bolstering player protection initiatives. GREF expressed its gratitude for his dedicated service.
In the wake of these changes, Ian Angus has been appointed as the new treasurer, stepping into the role that Miller held. Angus currently serves as the director of policy at the UK Gambling Commission, where he has been actively involved in policy development since 2020, including working on the Gambling Act white paper and its financial risk assessment recommendations. His appointment underscores the ongoing influence of the UK within GREF amid a period of personnel shifts at the Gambling Commission, which recently welcomed Ruth Evans as the new chair, succeeding Charles Counsell after a year in the position.
Additionally, Olivia Petit joins GREF as the new board secretary. Petit is an associate professor at KEDGE Business School and specializes in research related to consumer behavior in digital contexts and emerging technologies.
