The Gambling Regulators European Forum (GREF) announced a significant board reshuffle on Monday, which includes the departure of two veteran members alongside the introduction of two new officers.
GREF operates as a collaborative network for national gambling regulators from Europe and beyond, aimed at fostering dialogue, sharing information, and exchanging best practices in regulatory strategies.
Tim Miller, who left his position at the UK Gambling Commission earlier this year, has also stepped down from the GREF board, resigning his role as treasurer. Miller has been a prominent figure in the UK gambling landscape, playing a crucial role in the implementation of major reforms related to online gambling regulation and affordability checks. GREF acknowledged and expressed gratitude for Miller’s years of dedicated service.
Also departing the board is Jean-Michel Costes, who concluded his tenure at France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ). Costes was engaged with GREF at a time when various European regulators prioritized tightening advertising regulations and improving player protection measures. The forum recognized Costes for his commitment during his service.
In the wake of these departures, GREF has appointed Ian Angus as the new treasurer. Angus is currently the director of policy at the UK Gambling Commission and has been actively involved in policy development since 2020, including work on the Gambling Act white paper and its associated recommendations regarding financial risk assessments. His selection indicates the continued presence of UK representation within GREF, despite ongoing personnel changes at the Gambling Commission. Meanwhile, Ruth Evans has been appointed as the new chair of the Gambling Commission, succeeding Charles Counsell after his year-long tenure.
Additionally, Olivia Petit has been named the new board secretary for GREF. Petit is an associate professor at KEDGE Business School, focusing her research on consumer behavior in digital settings and the impact of emerging technologies.
