The 18th International Conference on Risk-Taking & Gambling at UNLV was no exception. Only the shot glasses contained nonalcoholic smoothies that included spinach, kale and apples.
Tori Horn, a University of Memphis graduate student, presented a paper titled “Alcohol consumption while gambling: New evidence within a responsible gamblingFramework” in which she found that a high probability of people with gambling problems also being at risk of developing a drinking issue.

Five months after Pele’s death, Brazil’s biggest soccer nation has been shaken by an historic match-fixing controversy.

NCAA Study of College-Aged Sports Bettors finds 61% have placed a live bet
Opinion Diagnostics has conducted a survey that was shared with the NCAA. The results show that despite the restricted access to legal sports gambling, a majority college-aged adults bet on sports.
The survey took place between April 18-25 and included 3,527 responses. Participants were aged 18-22. One-seven hundred and twenty two of the survey participants are students at universities in the United States. In the survey, 58% of participants had placed a bet on sports and 67% were students who lived on campus. College students bet on their school’s team regularly (41%), while a third have used student bookmakers.

New York regulator backs off of plan to ban third-party sports betting advertisements
This year, two prominent Northeastern States have proposed new regulations for affiliate marketing in Sports Betting. These include the possibility of banning advertising of sports betting by third-party companies.
The New York State Gaming Commission approved proposed rules in February that would prevent compensation to third parties based upon the number of customers, wagers placed or the result of the bets. Massachusetts prohibited affiliate marketers from entering revenue-sharing agreements with sportsbooks. However, other forms of advertising were allowed on a limited scale.
