The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has granted Lotto BV a five-year extension of its monopoly licenses, effective January 1, 2027. The company's existing licenses will expire on December 31, 2026.
This decision is significant for Lotto BV, as it seeks clarity regarding its ongoing eligibility to conduct lotteries, instant lotteries, and terrestrial sports betting after its current licenses lapse.
However, the continuation of Lotto BV's monopoly in these markets hinges on the outcome of a pending decision from the Administrative Court of the State Council, which is expected to address the legality of the gambling monopoly. The KSA emphasized the necessity of ensuring a consistent legal supply of lottery and sports betting offerings beyond December 31, 2026.
The renewed licenses, valid for five years, introduce updated standards aimed at enhancing protection for players and children. Lotto BV must also inform the KSA of any changes in its ownership or management structure. Should the court decide to dissolve the monopoly, the KSA will have to revoke Lotto BV's licenses accordingly.
