Holland Casino Online has received a five-year extension for its Dutch online gambling licence, as announced by the Netherlands Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) on Thursday. This extension will take effect on 1 October 2026, allowing the operator to maintain its online gambling services within the regulated Dutch market until at least 2031.
The renewal of the licence highlights the regulator’s continued support for Holland Casino Online. Petra de Ruiter, the chief executive of Holland Casino, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a safe and responsible online environment, stating, “we will continue to commit to a safe and responsible online offering, where player protection always comes first.” She also noted the importance of ensuring that the regulated market remains appealing enough to deter players from turning to unregulated providers lacking adequate supervision and protection.
The need for an attractive regulated market was also echoed by the KSA, particularly in light of accusations against Betcity and TOTO Winkel for breaching the advertising ban prohibiting the use of role models in gambling promotions. The government had established a nearly complete ban on gambling advertisements in June.
This licence extension follows the implementation of a significant tax increase that Holland Casino faced earlier this year. In January, the tax rate for gambling operators was raised to 34.2% of gross gaming revenue (GGR), with a further hike to 37.8% occurring later in the year. Holland Casino was quick to respond to this increase, expressing concerns that it would negatively impact the company’s profits. The operator reported that the initial tax rise led to an additional €13.5 million in costs during the first half of 2025.
In response to last year’s announcement that Holland Casino would not undergo privatisation, the government indicated that it would work with the operator to address the financial impacts of the tax hikes. Officials from the Ministry of Finance had projected an estimated additional €200 million in tax revenue annually from 2025 to 2028, following the approval of the new tax structure in September.
