Holland Casino Online has received a five-year extension on its Dutch online gambling licence, as announced by the Netherlands Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) on Thursday. This extension, effective from October 1, 2026, allows the operator to provide its online gambling services in the regulated Dutch market until at least 2031.
This licence renewal underscores the regulator's continued support for Holland Casino Online. Petra de Ruiter, the chief executive of Holland Casino, emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to delivering a secure and responsible online gambling experience, prioritizing player protection. She further stressed the importance of making the regulated market appealing to prevent players from turning to unregulated providers lacking oversight and protection.
The focus on maintaining an attractive regulated market is shared by the KSA, which has dealt with accusations against Betcity and TOTO Winkel regarding violations of the ban on using role models in gambling advertisements. The government instituted a significant advertising ban in June.
The licence extension arrives shortly after a gambling tax increase implemented in the Netherlands in January. Initially set at 34.2% of gross gaming revenue (GGR), the tax rate increased to 37.8% earlier this year. Holland Casino was among the first to publicly criticize this hike, arguing it would reduce the operator’s future profits. The initial tax increase of 34.2% resulted in an additional €13.5 million in costs for the operator during the first half of 2025.
The government has indicated a willingness to collaborate with Holland Casino regarding the tax increase, particularly after announcing last year that privatization of the operator will not take place. In September, the Ministry of Finance projected an additional €200 million in annual revenue from the tax hike between 2025 and 2028.
