In an effort to preserve the integrity of the sport, the Badminton World Federation announced that its Integrity Unit had established a data sharing agreement with the Malta Gaming Authority.
Monitoring Suspicious Betting Activity
The MGA and the strategic partnership will be focused on monitoring suspicious betting activity in badminton matches and other events. This will further demonstrate the commitment of the governing body to fair and clean competition in the sport.
“This partnership helps BWF Integrity Unit preserve the integrity of sport with MGA helping facilitate the sharing data between betting operators, the BWF Integrity Unit,” stated Thomas Lund BWF secretary general. He praised the partnership as “a deterrent for potential corruptors in the sport.”
BWF collects information on players, matches, and competitions as part of its anti match manipulation operations. It then analyzes this data and uses intelligence to identify possible match manipulation. The MGA has signed data-sharing agreements to ensure the integrity of its gambling regulator.
Antonio Zerafa is the head of financial crime compliance for the MGA. He commented on the strategic partnership and was pleased to see the BWF joining the long list “whom the Authority assists at a practical level” and looks forward to working with their Integrity Unit to resolve any potential issues.
Combating Doping and Match Manipulation
The BWF Integrity Unit is located in the Kuala Lumpur office. It focuses on keeping badminton clean from doping, match manipulation, and managing anti-doping programs on a daily basis.
After an earlier agreement with Stats Perform, which was focused on monitoring live betting activity, the strategic agreement with MGA is the second major achievement for the Integrity Unit of the sports governing body.
BWF’s Integrity Unit announced a partnership with Stats Perform. The data provider has agreed to provide its integrity services to the sport-governing body. This includes bringing in its advanced technology to increase its ability to invest in suspicious events, identify corruption, and protect the integrity and integrity of the sport.
