Vyking Ventures, the investment division of Vyking, has made a strategic investment in Dopamine Sports Ventures, a fund that focuses on early-stage and growth opportunities within the sports technology sector. This partnership aims to enhance the capability of identifying and nurturing leading companies in this rapidly evolving field.
This investment underscores Vyking Ventures’ commitment to propelling companies at the intersection of gaming, technology, and innovative player and fan engagement. By collaborating with a fund that has substantial, hands-on experience in sports technology, Vyking expands its reach into this dynamic market.
Dopamine emerged from a collaborative network of angel investors and professionals from the sports, entertainment, and media sectors. Following a successful track record with its first self-funded investment initiative, the group has transitioned to its second fund—a more targeted vehicle focused on early and growth-stage sports technology businesses. Instead of spreading its investments across a wide array of companies, Dopamine adopts a selective approach, ensuring that it pairs financial support with the operational insights, industry connections, and strategic guidance offered by its founding partners.
Leading the charge are founding partners Andreas Meinrad, Barry McNeill, and Markus Egger, who collectively possess extensive experience in leadership roles within the sports, entertainment, media, and technology domains. Dopamine is also developing a network of entrepreneurs, experts, and practitioners from the global sports industry, ensuring its portfolio companies have access to valuable relationships and expertise that extend beyond mere capital.
This investment is a natural extension of Vyking’s background in iGaming, platform engineering, and crypto infrastructure and reflects its broader ideology that building strong human relationships and leveraging industry knowledge are crucial in creating successful businesses.
Franz Gerhart, CEO of Vyking, remarked on the investment: "Sports and gaming are converging faster than ever, and Dopamine has built exactly the kind of network and hands-on operating experience we look for in a partner. We’re proud to back Dopamine and look forward to supporting its portfolio companies as they scale."
Markus Egger, one of the founding partners of Dopamine, expressed gratitude for the collaboration, stating: "We’re excited and grateful to welcome Franz and the wider Vyking Ventures team as investors in Dopamine. Regardless of how sophisticated the tools and technology become in this industry, we believe that human connections built on trust will remain a critical success factor in investing."
Through this investment, Vyking Ventures plans to support Dopamine in expanding its portfolio, backing emerging sports technology founders, and developing its network of experts and practitioners across the international sports landscape.
