Vyking Ventures Invests in Dopamine to Expand Sports Technology Interests

Vyking Ventures, the investment division of Vyking, has invested in Dopamine Sports Ventures, a fund focused on early-stage and growth opportunities in sports technology. This investment underscores Vyking's dedication to supporting businesses at the crossroads of gaming and innovative player and fan engagement, now expanding its interests into the burgeoning sports technology market with a fund that offers extensive, hands-on access.

Dopamine was established by a collective of angel investors and operators from the sports, entertainment, and media sectors. The fund, transitioning from its self-funded roots, is now operating through its second fund which is tailored specifically for early and growth-stage ventures in sports tech and related areas. Dopamine prioritizes selectivity in its investments and pairs financial backing with the operational know-how, industry connections, and strategic insight of its founders.

The fund is spearheaded by founding partners Andreas Meinrad, Barry McNeill, and Markus Egger, who together bring decades of leadership in sports, entertainment, media, and technology. Dopamine is also fostering a growing community of entrepreneurs and industry professionals, thereby equipping its portfolio companies with access to valuable resources and expertise beyond mere financial support.

This investment complements Vyking’s experience in iGaming, platform engineering, and cryptocurrency infrastructure. It reflects Vyking Ventures' belief in the importance of human relationships and industry insight as key drivers for fostering successful, category-leading businesses.

Franz Gerhart, CEO of Vyking, remarked on the investment, stating, "Sports and gaming are converging faster than ever, and Dopamine has built exactly the kind of network and hands-on operating experience we look for in a partner. We’re proud to back Dopamine and look forward to supporting its portfolio companies as they scale."

Markus Egger, a founding partner of Dopamine, expressed enthusiasm about Vyking's investment: "We’re excited and grateful to welcome Franz and the wider Vyking Ventures team as investors in Dopamine. We’ve already seen the depth of expertise and network they bring to the group. However sophisticated the tools and technology in this industry become, we remain convinced that human connections built on trust will keep being one of the most important success factors in the world of investing."

Through this strategic investment, Vyking Ventures will assist Dopamine in expanding its portfolio and furthering its mission by supporting new founders in the sports tech field and enhancing its network of industry practitioners.
