Vectiq Inc., a performance-acquisition group based in Nevada, has completed the acquisition of PlayCanada.com from Catena Media US, Inc., a prominent player in the iGaming affiliate network space. This strategic purchase provides Vectiq with a well-established Canadian iGaming brand at a pivotal time as Alberta has opened its regulated online gaming market to private operators, effective July 13, 2026. This development marks Alberta as the second major province to regulate online gaming, following Ontario's lead with its iGaming Ontario framework.
Since its launch in 2000, PlayCanada.com has been a staple in the Canadian iGaming media arena, offering comprehensive coverage of casino, sports betting, poker, and slot content across various provinces including Ontario and Alberta.
For Vectiq, the acquisition serves as both a market entry and a strategic declaration. The company aims to build a portfolio of iGaming media assets designed to facilitate regulated player acquisitions for operators through various means, including editorial content, search engine optimization, paid media, and free-to-play game formats. Vectiq describes its operational model as 'an affiliate built like an operator.'
Pablo Ferreira, CEO of Vectiq, remarked on the acquisition, stating, "PlayCanada.com is a brand that Canadians have trusted for a generation. Alberta's regulated market will create significant demand for reliable, province-specific insights for players, and PlayCanada.com’s established editorial depth and national presence position us to effectively meet that need."
Pierre Cadena, Chief Operating Officer of Catena Media, commented, "PlayCanada.com is transitioning to a partner well-positioned to advance its growth. Vectiq's expertise in Canada and local insights make it ideally situated to expand the brand as the Alberta market opens. Our MRKTPLAYS+ strategy is evident here—supporting strong partnerships to maximize value in targeted markets. Canada remains a key market for Catena Media, and we are pleased to see PlayCanada.com in capable hands for its next chapter."
With this acquisition, Vectiq now has a foothold in the Canadian market, complemented by its existing platform, MaxSpinz.com, which focuses on casino and sweepstakes reviews in Ontario. The company's operational model integrates abilities in organic search, paid media, free-to-play mechanisms, and effective customer relationship management. This blend of skills applied to assets with established domain authority and audience recognition forms the foundation of Vectiq's acquisition strategy.
The Alberta regulated market is a crucial component of Vectiq's strategy, especially considering Ontario's success in creating a well-defined iGaming framework that has effectively generated regulated play while mitigating grey-market operations. Alberta's entry into the regulated landscape poses new opportunities, particularly for affiliate brands that have established credibility, province-specific content, and strong domain authority. PlayCanada.com’s existing coverage of Alberta, including content related to retail casinos and regulatory guidelines, positions it as a key element in Vectiq's strategy for the region.
