Casino Guru Academy has introduced a new course titled Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice, developed in collaboration with BetBlocker International. This course aims to provide iGaming operators with practical, expert-backed recommendations for effectively managing self-exclusion and safeguarding vulnerable players.
Self-exclusion is a key component of safer gambling, mandated in numerous regulated markets. However, the rules surrounding self-exclusion can differ greatly from one country or region to another, as well as among various operators. Such discrepancies can lead to significant gaps in player protection, complicating the operators' management processes.
In response to these challenges, Casino Guru Academy designed this course to help bridge the existing gaps. It includes a comprehensive plan for assessing, enhancing, or establishing self-exclusion systems, accompanied by a detailed 30-day implementation guide.
The foundation of the course is the Recommended Code of Practice for online self-exclusion, released in 2025, and developed by Dr. Margaret Carran in partnership with Casino Guru and a team of ten iGaming experts.
Šimon Vincze, the Head of Safer and Sustainable Gaming at Casino Guru, stated, "We wanted to give operators guidance they can actually use. To be clear, we don’t aim to replace local regulation or create a rigid global rulebook. We want to spread the findings on what self-exclusion best practice looks like and how operators can adapt it to fit their market, teams, and players."
The course emphasizes a multi-layered strategy for player protection, illustrating that self-exclusion becomes more effective when integrated with other resources and services, such as blocking software, treatment programs, and helplines dedicated to safer gambling.
A segment of the course was crafted in direct partnership with BetBlocker International, a tool that allows users to block gambling sites, detailing how such software can enhance self-exclusion efforts and assist in preventing vulnerable players from gambling.
Pedro Romero, the CEO of BetBlocker International, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, saying, "This course will help operators committed to player protection understand how to provide additional safeguards when a player decides to self-exclude. Self-exclusion should be supported by clear signposting to support services and practical blocking tools, which can play an important role in helping people maintain their decision across operators, whether they want to minimize harm or stop completely. BetBlocker International exists to make those protections free, anonymous, and accessible to anyone who needs them."
The launch of Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice aligns with Casino Guru Academy’s mission to offer valuable, complimentary education to professionals in the iGaming sector. The course is now available on the Casino Guru Academy website and will also be featured at iGB L!VE London 2026, a significant event in the global iGaming calendar.
