Casino Guru Academy Unveils Free Self-Exclusion Course

Casino Guru Academy has introduced a new course titled Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice, crafted in collaboration with experts from BetBlocker International. This course aims to equip iGaming operators with practical, research-backed recommendations for managing self-exclusion and enhancing protection for at-risk players.

Self-exclusion plays a crucial role in promoting safer gambling and is mandated in numerous regulated markets. However, the regulations surrounding self-exclusion differ significantly from one country or region to another, leading to potential gaps in player protection and complicating operators' tasks.

To address these challenges, Casino Guru Academy developed this course, which outlines a practical strategy for assessing, refining, or establishing self-exclusion systems, complemented by a 30-day guide for implementation. The course is founded on the Recommended Code of Practice for online self-exclusion published in 2025, which was created by Dr. Margaret Carran alongside Casino Guru and a diverse group of ten iGaming experts.

Šimon Vincze, the Head of Safer and Sustainable Gaming at Casino Guru, stated, "We wanted to give operators guidance they can actually use. To be clear, we don’t aim to replace local regulation or create a rigid global rulebook. We want to disseminate the findings on what self-exclusion best practice looks like and how operators can adapt it to fit their market, teams, and players."

The course emphasizes a multi-layered strategy for player protection, indicating that self-exclusion is most effective when integrated with other resources, including blocking software, helplines, treatment programs, and additional safer gambling information.

Some aspects of the course were developed in direct partnership with BetBlocker International, a free tool designed to block gambling access, to illustrate how such software can enhance self-exclusion efforts and help safeguard vulnerable players.

Pedro Romero, CEO of BetBlocker International, remarked, "This course will help operators committed to player protection understand how to provide additional safeguards when a player decides to self-exclude. Self-exclusion should be supported by clear signposting to support services and practical blocking tools, which can play an important role in helping people maintain their decision across operators, whether they want to minimize harm or stop completely. BetBlocker International exists to make those protections free, anonymous, and accessible to anyone who needs them."

The launch of Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice aligns with Casino Guru Academy’s mission of offering valuable free education to iGaming professionals. The course is accessible on the Casino Guru Academy website and is set to be showcased at the iGB L!VE London 2026, a significant event for the global iGaming sector.
