Altenar Joins IBIA to Boost Sports Betting Integrity in Africa

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) recently reported promising growth for sports betting in Africa. According to the association’s 2025 Sports Betting Integrity Report, utilizing data from H2 Gambling Capital, Africa's total gross gaming revenue (GGR) is expected to increase from $3.5 billion in 2021 to an impressive $19.4 billion by 2030. Notably, online betting is projected to comprise about $16.4 billion of this increase.

As the market evolves and more regulations come into play, ensuring the integrity of sports and betting becomes crucial for sustainable development. This context highlights why Altenar's alliance with IBIA is significant.

The IBIA operates as a global non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining integrity in sports betting. It represents over 90 companies and 200 betting brands globally. By engaging in monitoring, intelligence sharing, and collaboration with operators and regulators, IBIA plays a key role in protecting regulated betting markets.

For Altenar, collaboration with IBIA signifies its commitment to this collective effort, while also working to enhance its sportsbook offerings in African nations. The company combines a versatile sportsbook platform with in-depth knowledge of local markets, adapting effectively to varying regulatory and commercial needs.

Being a member of IBIA allows Altenar to tap into a broader network of betting operators and stakeholders who are focused on spotting and mitigating integrity risks. This connection is especially beneficial as Altenar scales its operations across Africa, where the evolution of regulatory frameworks can vary significantly.

Altenar's affiliation with IBIA underscores its status as a dependable sportsbook technology provider and highlights its dedication to the integrity and sustainability of the markets it serves.

Jacob Portelli, Sales Manager at Altenar, stated, "Africa is a market with significant potential, but sustainable growth depends on building trust alongside strong technology and commercial propositions. Integrity is a shared responsibility across the industry, and being part of IBIA gives Altenar the opportunity to contribute to that wider effort. We believe that combining our experience in sportsbook technology with the collective expertise of IBIA’s network can help support a stronger and more sustainable betting environment across Africa."

Khalid Ali, IBIA’s CEO, noted that while the African market presents vast opportunities, it also faces challenges, particularly from unregulated operators and match-fixing that could undermine progress. He pointed out that while improvements have been made in various regions, the regulatory framework in Africa still lags behind leading jurisdictions like Ontario and Alberta regarding betting integrity measures. He acknowledged Altenar's clear dedication towards integrity monitoring and reporting, emphasizing the collaborative efforts required to elevate regulatory standards in Africa.
